The minister of state for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has said that the federal government will employ 1,000 youths who will be paid a monthly stipend of N20,000 for drainage and canal maintenance.
The junior minister stated this while addressing journalists in Abuja to give update on the newly-established Special Public Works programme scheme.
According to the minister, the federal government will employ youths across all the 774 local government areas in the country and pay them N20,000 monthly for three months.
Keyamo, who disclosed that N42.6bn has been allocated for the scheme, further claimed that the programme will commence on October 1, 2020.
He further said that a website will be created where the names of beneficiaries and parties involved will be listed when the programme kick-starts.
The minister described the Special Public Works programme as the masses centred and biggest social intervention schemes in a short time.
