The crisis between Ekiti state Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and an adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on political matters, Chief Babafemi Ojudu is getting out of hands as Fayemi on Wednesday made a veiled allegation that the Ojudu planted a story in the media that he was denied access to see President Muhammadu Buhari.

Yinka Oyebode, Fayemi’s Chief Press Secretary had on Wednesday, signed a press statement accusing ‘a senior presidential aide’ of planting the story.

He said the presidential aide, who is a former lawmaker, told close associates that he would battle Fayemi with “falsehood and cheap blackmail”.

The statement said that Fayemi had no plan to see Buhari on Tuesday, as he had met him earlier in the day, along with governors Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Simon Lalong and Badaru Abubakar, alongside Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Prof Ibrahim Gambari and the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

“The Ekiti State Governor was never denied any opportunity to see President Buhari as he did not ask to see the President and neither did he go with Chief Giadom,” the statement added.

Although Fayemi’s statement did not mention Ojudu by name, all the descriptions of the person that planted the story as contained in the statement match those of Chief Babafemi Ojudu, ‘a former lawmaker from Ekiti state,’ as the statement claimed.

There has been no love lost between Fayemi and Ojudu who have been contesting for political space in Ekiti state for some time now. While Fayemi is serving out his second term in office, Ojudu is said to be eying the Ekiti state governorship seat, an ambition that Fayemi is said not to be favourable.

It would be recalled that ALSC had on Tuesday published a story with the title- “Fayemi exposed, plotting to run with Atiku for Buhari’s office,” in which Ojudu, a former senator and Buhari’s aide the Ekiti state governor of plotting to contest the 2023 presidential election as running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar while pretending to be working for the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC.

Our report said that Ojudu said Fayemi who is the Chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) is using his position and trust that the president has on him to be lobbying for his personal interest at the detriment of the president’s party and interest.

He said- “I’ve never seen that kind of ambition before, granted, every human being should be ambitious but then if you want to aim to be the president of Nigeria, you must have been known to have done something good.

“If you govern Ekiti and turn all the roads in Ekiti to something that has never been seen before and you are providing water for everyone living in Ekiti, you’ve employed almost everybody in Ekiti, the place is looking good and clean, then Nigerians can say this man has done something spectacular, come and govern us!

“That is why he is now trying to bring down the party, of recent, I learnt that his dream now is to be a running mate to Atiku, the meetings he’s been having trying to break the party so that he can leave the party and join Atiku to become his running mate come 2023,” we had quoted Ojudu as saying.
