Hundreds of Nigerians have taken to the social media to complain and accuse Access bank of massive fraud especially stamp duty and other charges.
Many customers of the bank over the weekend called on the Central bank and other regulatory authorities to call the bank to order as well as investigate its activities in order to refund customer monies deducted illegally.
One of the complaints, Emma Anya said on Sunday on his Facebook wall- “Access Bank refund my N100.” This post triggered much reaction with customers telling very painful experiences they had with the bank.
He said- “Access bank just deducted N100 from my money with them and termed it stamp duty. What for? Why? My only transaction with them this month was a 50k transfer Thursday. I was instantly charged for that service. I don’t understand again,” he said.
Another poster, Ignatius Uzus said- “When did Access Bank start selling stamps that debit alert is coming to me every 20 minutes?
As so many complained against the bank, someone called Odah Ebubechukwu Nelson tried to intervene on behalf of Access Bank saying the attacks on the institution were not called for. He posted- “Please stop this social media gra-gra. Access Bank is the best in Nigeria.”
But the poster was immediately followed with a barrage of attacks by other Facebook users in protest.
Chizoba Adini said- “Onye Abagana, you don’t understand what we (customers of the bank) are passing through.”
Omoluwa Nelson wrote “Nonsense bank with nonsense ATM.”
David Patrick Ogaba asked- “Since when,? in reaction to Odah Ebubechukwu’s claim that Access Bank is the best in Nigeria.
“Stop being insensitive and let people voice out their frustrations over the activities of Access bank,” was the reaction of Arit Ekpo.
Arinze Ihejirika said, reacting to Odah’s attempt to defend the bank- “First time I am disagreeing with you nwachukwu. Access Bank is the worst.
Henry Bala said- “This bank (Access) is useless. They just keep taking your money, little by little.”
Another poster, Sunshine Andrew said- “I enjoy them sometimes but they have really spoiled with these stamp duty charges.’
For Lucy Anigbogu, Access Bank “Is the most useless bank. I was debited N850 for stamp duty charge.’
Comrade SirPee Enemuo wrote- “Because you are not using the bank abi? I have stopped banking with the …,” using an unprintable word to describe the bank.
Other customers of the bank who reacted accused the bank of making a donation of N1 billion to the federal government as covid-19 intervention while sacking hundreds of its Nigerian staff the following week, saying Access bank is a dubious financial institution.
