Former Benue state governor and Chairman, Senate Committee on Power, Senator Gabriel Suswan has lashed at the Transmission Company of Nigeria TCN, accusing it of being part of the problems facing the power sector in Nigeria.
He said at the end of an Investigative Hearing to unravel the circumstances responsible for unending epileptic power supply in the country, that the sector was in a state of financial distress adding that a lot of issues must be aligned for the sector to perform optimally.
The former governor therefore called on Stakeholders in the sector to shun the blame game in the interest of the country.
Before Suswan took the position, the representative of the TCN, Edmond Ejeh, had alleged that Nigeria’s power sector challenges were partly due to indiscipline on the part of the DISCOs and GENCOs as well as the Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Company NBET.
Ejeh said power generation and supply had been on the downward slide since the privatization of the sector and appealed that the Electricity Companies be allowed to be self-sustaining without having to be dependent on government’s intervention.
