The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has told the federal government not to attempt reducing the salary of workers in the country to avert dire consequences.
A Nigerian senator, Ali Ndume had on Tuesday suggested the slashing of salaries of civil servants who he said have been at home due to the covid-19 instigated lockdown adding that they should rather receive palliatives with lower wages.
But the Chairman, Kano State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kabiru Ado-Minjibir, cautioned against any attempt to slash salaries of workers in the country.
He flashed the red light Wednesday in Kano, adding that any attempt to reduce workers’ salaries would be met with stiff resistance.
“It is not the right time for the lawmaker to give such advice because it’s not the right time to reduce workers’ salaries as they are not being given any palliative.
“Since workers are not being given palliatives, their salaries should not be tampered with,” Ado-Minjibir said.
