Two known political warriors, Kano state Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and his River State counterpart, Bar. Nyesom Wike have been appointed by their different political parties to lead the battle for the soul of Edo state in the governorship election coming up in September 2020.
While the All Progressives Congress (APC) appointed Ganduje as head of the party’s team for the election, the Peopes Democratic Party (PDP) just sent ALSC a statement few minutes ago announcing the appointment of Wike as the Chairman of the Edo state governorship election campaign committee.
Both Ganduje and Wike are “dreaded” political horses for the ability to fight ferocious election battles and win.
The two men are also quite controversial. While Wike is always at loggerheads with federal government, being a staunch member of the opposition, Ganduje’s name is viral among politics watchers for his dethronement, last year, of the controversial Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
The disgraced Emir had, during the 2019 governorship election, openly alligned with the opposition PDP, in breach of the rules of neutrality expected of a traditional ruler, in desperate attempt to topple Ganduje who incidentally survived the onslaught against him and later plotted a counter attack, sending Sanusi on bended knees.
It is expected that the Edo government house battle would be epic in view of the two political “Field Marshalls” at the forefront.
While incumbent Governor, Godwin Obaseki is the candidate of the PDP, his main rival is Pastor Ize Iyamu who is flying the APC flag.
