The Police Command in Bayelsa says it has apprehended seven suspected armed robbers and recovered 5 firearms as well as three stolen vehicles.
The Commissioner of Police, Nkereuwem Akpan, disclosed this during a news briefing at the state police headquarters in Yenagoa on Wednesday.
Akpan said the suspects were arrested as information received by the Commander Operation Puff Adder State Police Headquarters Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
He said: “Information has it that a syndicate of snatchers do constantly infiltrate Yenagoa, in Bayelsa, from neighboring Imo and Ebonyi States, unlawfully sell stolen vehicles popularly called “Mini Bus.
“It is snatched from innocent members of the public from the above mentioned States.
“On 12/6/2020 at about 1600hrs, a team of Police men attached to Operation Puff Adder were detailed to Amassoma Community, in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa, where one Chinemerem Emereoye ‘m’ an indigene of Imo, was arrested at the motor park.
“The suspect confessed to having snatched three (3) Mini Buses from neighboring States and sold them to residents of Amassoma, in Bayelsa. Investigation further led to the arrest of one Edolor Ekiyoukekeme ‘m’ and Ogunleye Ebenezer ‘m’ who are the receiver of the items,” he said.
