Telma Amaso, a house-help who in 2013 strangled her ‘madam’ Helen Ibiba Bobmauel has been sentenced to death by hanging.
The late Mrs. Bobmanuel was strangled to death at her residence in the Woji axis of the State.
Amaso and one Ndubuisi Chukwuemeka were tried for murder, conspiracy to murder and stealing but conspiracy to murder was struck out.
Justice Silverline Iragonima while delivering judgement on the matter on Tuesday said the first and second defendants were convicted because of overwhelming evidence before the court, including the confessional statements given to the police that clearly indicted them of committing the crime.
According to the Judge, even though Amaso denied and retracted his confessional statements, he failed to convince the court that he never committed the crime while Chukwuemeka was convicted for stealing because his claims that he never knew that the first defendant had committed a crime did not convince the court to discharge him of the offence.
