Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has denied allegations that he received the sum of N4 billion from embattled acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, Ibrahim Magu when President Muhammadu Buhari travelled out of the country on medical grounds.
There were series of media reports on Wednesday, alleging that Magu, now suspending and facing probe by a Presidential Committee, was directed by Osinbajo to give him N4 billion out of the N39 billion the acting EFCC boss was being accused of misappropriating from recovered looted funds.
Reacting to the reports, Laolu Akande, Osinbajo’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, said the story was nothing but fake news.
He said that Osinbajo has never been involved in any shady deals with Magu or anybody for that matter and asked the public to disregard the news.
“Inundated by wide circulation of Fake News about VP’s purported involvement in some EFCC recovery billions, please rest assured they’re all LIES calculated to confuse and concocted to smear Prof. Osinbajo’s image.
“The VP hasn’t and will never be involved in any such shady activities,” Akande stated.
