Conscious of the wicked and diabolical nature of some Nigerian politicians who can go extra mile to exact vengeance against their opponents, Governor Nyesom Wike of River State has sent a strong worded message to former Governor of Akwa Ibom state and Minister for Niger Delta Godswill Akpabio and other stakeholders in the ongoing probe of the financial activities in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, to ensure that no harm is meted on the person of Dr. Joy Nuniel, the immediate acting Managing Director of the Commission.
Dr. Nuniel have been engaged in allegations and counter allegations with Akpabio over contracts and funds-stealing, during the period of her stay as boss of NDDC under the supervision of Akpabio as Minister.
Akpabio had while appearing on a live TV show said Nuniel had married four men in the past, adding that she lack both moral and academic qualifications to hold public office. He also described the former NDDC boss as stubborn and insubordinate.
However, Nuniel in response, accused Akpabio of insatiable greed, saying the former governor wanted her to do several unwholesome deals but that she refused. She said Akpabio used his girlfriend to siphon money out of NDDC and that she was branded as insubordinate because she resisted sexual harassments from Akpabio and at a time slapped the Minister for the harassment.
Fearing that the ongoing revelations may degenerate into worse situation, Rivers State Government has warned that it would not tolerate any harm coming the way of Dr. Nuniel, a daughter of the state.
In veiled statement which did not mention Akpabio directly, the state government said it would not fold arms and watch anybody do any harmful thing to Nuniel.
According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, River State, Paulinus Nsirim, forces behind the probe should ensure the security of Nunieh.
The commissioner said that the government would never support any action capable of jeopardizing the laudable intentions of President Muhammadu Buhari to reposition the commission for optimum performance.
“Rivers State Government has viewed with concern, the recent developments at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in which the name of our daughter, Dr. Joy Nunieh, the immediate past Acting Managing Director of the Commission, has been dragged into.
“We hereby call on those involved in the ongoing investigations in the NDDC to ensure that Dr. Joi Nunieh does not suffer any harm in the course of their undertakings.

We advise those involved in the present altercations in the NDDC to thread with caution in their actions and utterances,” the statement said.
