In what some have described as desperate move to cling to power by proxy, former Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole on Sunday, apologised to traditional rulers in Benin kingdom for the choice of Godwin Obaseki as successor.
He said the apologies were necessary especially for working tirelessly to make Obaseki his successor in 2016.
The former governor tendered his apology in the Edo South Senatorial District of the state, ahead of the governorship election where he presented Pastor Ize-Iyamu to the traditional rulers.
He said- “I am angry with the present Governor for failing to continue all the ongoing projects and failing to keep to all his campaign promises. Instead, he is spending the state’s resources by signing MOUs.
“I apologise for his failure but we are here to correct that error with the 2020 governorship election by bringing a man who understands the workings of the state and a man who has a clear manifesto that will bring the dividend of democracy to Edo people and that man is Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.”
However, a member of the PDP in Edo state, Stanley Efie told ALSC via telephone that Oshiomhole was ready to do anything to remain relevant in Edo and Nigerian politics, saying the former national chairman of APC has no shame.
“Maybe he thinks he can always fool all the people all the times, including our royal fathers. Oshiomhole is just a desperate man who can go to any extent to make political capital. But it is clear, his days of relevance are over,” he said.
