Ibrahim Magu, the suspended Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, has petitioned retired Justice Ayo Salami requesting that Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami be summoned to appear and testify before the investigating panel probing the activities of the EFCC.
In the petition dated September 4, 2020 and addressed to Justice Salami, Magu said that in line with the principle of fair hearing, the panel should summon Malami to testify and tender relevant documents in the probe
The petition, written on behalf of Magu by his lawyer, Wahab Shittu was shared with journalists on Monday.
He said that the requests were made in line with the spirit of fair hearing guaranteed under section 36 of the Nigerian Constitution, adding that the Magu was entitled to being confronted with the allegations leveled against him, especially those by Malami.
“We believe that consistent with the fundamental principles of fair hearing as guaranteed under Section 36 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999.
“Our client is entitled to be confronted with copies of allegations against him as well as the opportunity to confront his main accuser (in this case, the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation) to enable our client raise issues concerning the allegations and cross-examine the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation on the substance and credibility of his allegations against our client,” part of the letter stated.
