Although there is a sharp disagreement between the Nigeria Army and the Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom over the manner in which a notorious gang leader, Terwase Agwaza, also known as Gana was killed, the Army is said to be demanding that Ortom pay the N50million bounty he placed on the head of the gang leader.
The Army this week killed Gana, saying he engaged them in a gun battle but Ortom said the militia gang leader had made voluntary surrender in line with terms of amnesty offered him by the state government and that the Army abducted him on the way while he was travelling to meet the Governor in his office, in company of many people.
A military source who spoke with journalists Thursday said the Army is waiting to see if Governor Samuel Ortom will keep to his promise before Gana was killed.
The source added that Governor Ortom’s response to the demand for the bounty on Gana will determine whether or not Benue state government is backing the military’s efforts against banditry and terrorism in the state.
