Many Nigerians have taken to social media to attack and lambast the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for his comment on patriotism.
Jega, a university don recently stated his own understanding of what patriotism means, saying it is devotion to country and not to the president.
He said- “Patriotism means to stand by the country. It does not mean to stand by the President.”
Reaction later followed Jega’s comment with many saying he is not a patriotic Nigerian for rigging the 20`15 election in favour of a President Muhammadu Buhari instead of been fair to all.
Chiddybankz01 replied and said- “Shey na you betrayed and rigged election against Jonathan.”
Dako Charles said his account @doncharlo_1 that- “Patriotism also means, when given national assignment, do it with sincerity and fear of God. Jega did you?”
Ayodeji Gasby @gasbytweet said- “Thank God the President is standing by the country,” with a mock image attached.
Gabby (Pray for Nigeria) @Gola asked Jega- “Sir, please why did you allow the colossal rigging that brought this man to subsist.”
“I think this is a parody account because the Jega I know is very loyal and patriotic to Buhari, not Nigeria. That was why he cornered Buhari in as president,” said another respondent with the name ‘Ali is no longer a boy’ @Gre
