Officials of the Ministry of Health, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), among others are by now at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport waiting for the arrival of the first batch of the Covid-19 vaccine.
A total of 3.924 million doses of the vaccine developed by Oxford-AstraZeneca are being expected.
President Muhammadu Buhari, Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, Ministers and top traditional rulers are to get vaccinated in the public on March 8 while the first phase of the vaccination drive will cater for frontline health workers. Phases 2, 3 and 4 will target the elderly, those who suffer from two or more diseases and citizens between the ages of 18 and 49, respectively.
According the national plan, the NAFADC will analyze a sample of vaccines tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday, while the campaign is expected to begin on Friday.
