Bauchi state government has refuted reports in some national dailies that Boko Haram terrorist have infiltrated some local government areas bordering Yobe state.

The Special Adviser to Governor Bala Mohammed of the state on Media, Comrade Mukhtar Gidado who addressed a press briefing at the government house on Tuesday, described the reports as false and mischievous.

Gidado noted that the press briefing was called at the instance of similar one held by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Sabiu Baba at the government house the previous day on the security situation in the state where some reporters misquoted him.

“Our attention has been drawn to a viral publication by cross section of newspapers and online medium where they erroneously reported that Boko Haram fighters raided Bauchi communities”, Comrade Gidado said.

Comrade Mukhtar Gidado who described the reports as erroneous and misrepresentation in the public domain, said there was no Single attack by Boko Haram or any criminal elements in the four (4) Local Governments or any Local Government for that matter.

The Governor’s media Aide noted that, “to report that the Boko Haram invaded these Local Governments was entirely false and mischievous”.

While cautioning journalists to respect the Security and integrity of the State, Comrade Gidado said: “We must as Journalists not report war where none exists”.

Adding that: “most of you were in attendance when the SSG spoke, he made no mention of any attack on any of the 4 Local Governments”.

Gidado while urging members of the general public to disregard the reports, demanded that such Newspapers must retract and apologize for the breach of professional ethics.

He said the briefing was centered on the general overview of security situation due to influx of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) into border communities of Gamawa and Dambam Local Governments as a result of the Gaidam attack.

Comrade Gidado said that the SSG had equally told journalists that the security meeting was aimed at taking proactive measures that will guarantee the security of citizens in the affected areas.
