The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the invasion of Magami town in Gusau Local Government Area by bandits, saying that bandits in their numbers arrived the community, Saturday night, with the intent to attack but were neutralized.
A press statement signed by the Police Spokesman, SP Mohammed Shehu said the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hussaini Rabiu directed the Police Tactical units comprising of PMF/CTU/Special Forces and Operation Puff Adder based in the area to synergize and ensure the protection of lives and properties of the people.
“The Tactical units moved in courageously and engaged the assailants in a gun duel. As a result of the encounter, the attack was successfully repelled, while an unspecified number of bandits were neutralised but many of them escaped with possible gunshot wounds” the statement added.
“Unfortunately, two of our Police operatives paid the supreme price while defending the innocent members of the communities. No loss of life was recorded on the side of the communities”
The statement noted that the Commissioner of Police also deployed additional tactical operatives to the area to complement the ongoing bush combing operations aimed at forestalling further attacks on nearby villages.
The Commissioner has reiterated his warning to all recalcitrant armed bandits to either surrender their arms and embrace peace or face the unpredictable consequences”
He also called on Police operatives in the command to defend themselves and the community aggressively in any engagement with bandits and ensure that they dominate the ungoverned spaces on a continuous basis. He further thanked the officers and men for their resilience.
