2,000 serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have been deployed to officiate the forthcoming Anambra governorship election taking place November 6 this year.
This was disclosed by the NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mrs. Yetunde Baberinwa, during the scheme’s cultural carnival held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Orientation camp, Umuawulu/Mgbakwu in Awka South Local Government Area of the State.
She said the affected corps members had been trained for the election task by both the NYSC management and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“The corps members have had their training in the camp and they will still have more training to enable them adequately handle the election process,” he said.
Baberinwa said the corps members were in good spirit and have conditioned their minds to serve the country and to ensure a seamless and credible election.
She, however, urged political parties and their candidates to play by the rules and avoid any attempt that would distract the corps members from discharging their assignment during the exercise.
Speaking on the carnival, Baberinwa said the idea was to bring corps members together culturally and to promote national unity.
