Thanks internal crisis that engulfed Nigeria’s main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has escalated following a ruling Thursday evening by a Kebbi State High Court returning Prince Uche Secondus as the party’s national chairman.
Currently, pro- Secondus supporters hve occupied the entrance of the Wadata plaza national Secretariat of the party, demanding for his resumption in office.
The loyalists stormed the Secretariat located at Wuse2 Zone 5 Abuja as early as 10.25 am today, Friday to show solidarity in anticipation of the return of the embattled National Chairman.
It would be recalled that a River state High Court had on Tuesday this week, sacked Secondus from office and warned him to stop parading himself as national chairman of the party.
Subsequently, PDP Governors Forum last night affirmed Chief Yemi Akinwonmi as the Acting national chairman, in line with the party’s constitutional provision that in the absence of the national chairman, the deputy national chairman from the zone of the chairman would assume the position in acting capacity.
It would be interesting to see how the obvious empass would be resolved in view of the fact that the Kebbi High Court is of concurrent jurisdiction with the River state High Court.
The Supreme Court has ruled in several past cases that the ruling of a court cannot vitiate the decision earlier taken by a court of concurrent jurisdiction.
