Three policemen have been killed by gunmen following an attack at their checkpoint in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo local government area of Anambra state this Wednesday.

Sources suggest that the attackers may be the same group that hit another check point in front of the Nigerian Police Area Command in Oraifite, same Ekwusigo Local Government Area.

Sources say, the military in response to the distress calls from the police, barricaded the Ekwusigo end of the Owerri – Onitsha road, forcing commuters to divert to the local roads in Ozubulu and Ihembosi, causing some panic in the communities.

The Inspector General Of Police (IGP), recently deployed five Deputy Inspectors General of Police to lead a squad of nearly 35,000 personnel to ensure peaceful conduct of the state governorship election slated for Saturday, November 6, 2021

The IGP today held a stakeholders meeting with all the political parties involved in the Anambra State elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission and other critical stakeholders. But the rampage of the gunmen has remained unabated.
