Bauchi State House of Assembly has passed the 2022 budget estimate recently presented to it by Governor Bala Mohammed of the state.

A press statement issued to journalists by the Spokesperson of the Speaker, Comrade Abdul Ahmad Burra, noted that the budget was approved during Thursday plenary presided over by Speaker Abubakar Suleiman.

According to Burra, before its passage into law, the budget estimate amounting to N197,475,607,143.85 was presented to the house by the Chairman, House Commitee on Budget and Appropriation, Hon. Abdulkadir Umar Dewu.

The press release said the sum of eighty five billion, fifty seven million, five hundred and eighty thousand, five hundred and eighteen naira fifty eight Kobo (N85,057,580,518,58) goes to recurrent expenditure representing 43%.

Burra noted that the sum of one hundred and twelve billion, four hundred and eighteen million, twenty six thousand six hundred and twenty five naira twenty seven Kobo (N112,418,026,625.27) only, for capital expenditure representing 57% of the total budget, should be passed into law.

He said that the report also commended that the Honourable House should commend the Executive Governor of Bauchi State Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammad, the Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning and the Accountant General for the timely presentation of 2022 budget, performance of 2021 budget and the timely hosting of the 2021 budget performance on the official website of the office of the Accountant General.

The Committee also recommended that the Honourable House should reemphasize and maintain its earlier resolution on vote of no confidence passed on the Commissioner of Education upon his contemptuous behaviour before the House Commitee on Education during the 2022 budget defense exercise.

After the Honourable House adopted the recommendations of the Report, the Majority Leader of the House Hon. Tijjani Muhammad Aliyu (Azare/Madangala Constituency) moved a motion urging the Honourable House to passed the 2022 Appropriation Bill into law and was seconded by the Minority Leader Hon. Bakoji Aliyu Bobbo (Chiroma Constituency.)

The press statement said the house unanimously approved after the speaker of the house put the motion to voice vote and the speaker directed the Clerk of the House Umar Yusuf Gital to carryout the third reading which marked the passage of the Bill into law.
